What does My-infy has instored for you??

  1. This is the most important question of the day….u don’t need to be great at programmer when u r joining as a Fresher. Guys don’t be in thoughts that u r going to be future hi fundu Programmer. The only time during which u do some serious programming is during training and u need not be skeptical if ur non comp sci student. Infy teaches every thing from basics. Now infy does not throw out anyone(Until You screwUp pretty bad u will get plenty of chances to pass all the test. Infosys trainings is not very tough but u need to put in some extra efforts.Currently Infy training runs for 6-8 months depending upon if you are a Comp-sci student, or a non-comp-sci student, or you are put into finacle. Generally finacle and non –comp batches have to stay for almost 8 months to complete their training. If you don’t perform well in any of the exams, you’ll be given a second chance, but if you flunk the second chance too,, then that particular module will be considered as dead,, In a particular training you can make only 66% of the module dead. so, attend classes carefully. Forget that you are no more a student for three months. After almost a couple of weeks of hecktick training the moment of joy finally arrives when you get your first pay,, ADVICE:- take out some money to pay ur tribute to GOD and tell ur parents as soon as you receive the msg from ICICI bank that sallary has been credited in your account, They ll be happier.
  2. It doesn’t matter wheather your background is CS or non-CS.Some people are from Construction, Mechanical, Civil, Printing, Chemical and different streams of Engineering. they got same exposure, same salary(around 13,500 for guys and 14,500 for girls ), same treatment, same knowledge. don’t think a CS student would be in advantageous position. All are same, Girls get extra sallary cause they share rooms and guys get single rooms ;) (lucky we).
Generally our training will be broken up into 2 parts. the first part will be a generic program, which will give us basic take on comps in general during that they teach us abt networking, C , DBMS(oracle) and a few other very basic concepts like basic java and all. U have to give tests for individual modules which are online tests multi-choice having NEGATIVE marking.  All is from the course material popularly know as Champak u should be thorough with the course material thats all. At the ends of the genric program u have to write a comprehensive exam, which is in three parts. One 50% of marks which is similar to the online tests u would have taken but with -ve mkng and 50% for the HandsOn practical examination. Though HandsOn seems to be tough but trust me guys, its going to save your ass more than a couple of times for sure,, just practice the daily assignments that you are given after the tutor is done with the daily theory part. After that u will be allotted to a specific stream.Different Streams They can allot you are:
  • JAVA: If you get JAVA U ll love the Stream Days,, You ll be able to enjoy all the facilities of Mysore campus when others are working there ass off.
  • MAINFRAME: These are a bit unlucky cause they ll have to put in a lot of effort. To execute a code that’s only 4 lines long they ll have to code another 100 lines,, which makes there life a bit miserable. BUT wait,, the good news is,,, its an absolute golden chance to be in MAINFRAMES cause almost all the Fortune 100 companies have most of the data in mainframes servers, So if you know mainframes ythen IT industry will always be in love with you and you ll easily get projects and promotions where ever you go.
  • Dot. NET: its as good as java, but the only problem is that you ll get lots of errors,, that to without any reason,, the code that’s not  working today will work the next day absolutely fine and that too without any change,, people who goto dot neet will enjoy it until they reach the 4th module i.e ADO which crashes many of the 5 pointers. (god bless their soule).
  • Open System(OS): guys This is the Toughest Stream you can get into.. we people would never ever want to be a part of this stream simply because it was far above our level(I am not shy to admiting the fact that I might have peed in my pants if I was put in this stream). I guess INFY only puts absolute 5 ptrs in this stream.
  • FINACLE: Generally people are not sent in this stream but some batches from 2009 were given a chance to learn finacle,, here they give you knowledge of the one and only infy prooduct i.e FINACLE. Its easy and you ll enjoy hell lot during training.
to Clear all the exams please go for the slides,, guys if you are thorough with slides,, mark my words noone can fail you. u just don’t need to go for any training before hand…becoz even if u know everything…it doesn’t matter …coz the Slides are the bible… project allocation is totally depends upon INFY.if u have any choice or interest they can’t help u.Its totally depends on their business requirement. Enterprise Systems has highest market value…there are also many mainframes project with infy.so if u do c,java,vb etc before joining it wud not help in training as
1. What they will teach u is different
2. U doesn’t know which specific stream u get there. e.g. if u get open system then java,vb which u did before training wud not help same in the case with internet stream i.e. if u do c beforehand then it wud not help in internet stream. And nothing wud help if u get mainframes as it has COBOL programming.
The facilities at mysore are down to earth. they will provide u cycle to move around. Hostels wud be on twin sharing basis for girls and single for guys ,, good news for girls is that now they are providing single rooms to girls also but its just pure luck that you ll get it or not. So Chillax… and enjoy your rest of the days in full throttle…if still u r thinking of some pre joining preparation then….nobody can suggests u.do whatever u want but don’t think that it wud help in your training due to above mentioned facts.
Time of Training
Training timings are fixed, You will have to reach in your class rooms by 9, after that your educator wont allow you to come in,, so please take care, the session will be divided into a couple of parts. The theory classes begin at sharp 9 followed by  a break at around 10:30, it’s a tea break for 15-20 mins after which the session will resu,e till 12 o clock. From 12 to 2 is luinch time, nearest food courts will be one present is GEC2 i.e ARENA(name of foodcourt) and FC1(i.e food court one). From 2-5 you ll be having lots of assignments for your handson practice, after 5 o clock you can leave but make sure you have clocked in minimum of 9:15 hours(i.e difference b/w swipein and swipeout). There are lots of best books in C, RDBMS, Java. Do refer to them,,, they ll be of great help. If you don’t wanna refer to other books then slides provided will be more than sufficient. But you’ll have to read them thoroughly.
But no book is there to match with their “syllabus”Don’t get afraid, if you study the study-materials well, you’ score a good mark.
Ask someone working in a good company about infy training, he will tell u Infy training is the best in India. My friend told infy training is the best and u will have a very bright future after 2 years. he also told me, just concentrate on your job in Infosys for 2 years and then change to some other company and then apply for some good Executive management program from good institute. Just go ahead and do good in infy.
Facilities
loads.. v ll gettin a single hostel room which in no way less than a 5 star hotel. Swimming, Bowling, Tennis, Library, everything, u name it and its available provided u get the Mysore center.
what we will be getting during training and any stipened or something during training
The HR who conducted the PPT presentation said that the CTC wld b 3.25lpa and after deductions v ll b gettin 19,475/-rs. Out of this some amount wld b deducted for the hostel changes during traing.and whats the duration for a CS engnr.
Hope it helps…
Have funn!!

Training Experience by a Infocian.

Dear Friends :
Here i want to share my experience that happened through out the entire training program that i had in Infosys. It had all the moments that could match a college semester and more than that too. Friends, Figures, Exams , Games, Movies, Parties, Professionalism ,Foreigners, DJ Nights and many more.
Journey Starts From Here : Get Set Goooooooooooo ….
I completed my final semester in may 2010 and i got my offer letter with joining date as 21-June-2010 from infosys. I was so happy that there was no need to pass any time in home without any job. Though my parents were so nice to me, i didn’t want to stick in my home after my college.
I got a mail from infosys about the TO DO before joining the company. I was stunned as i had to do lot. Passport, Fitness report, Joining formalities, Documents and many more. So i hardly enjoyed few days and did all these works in the rest of the days. The day came but i never felt overjoyed or anything exceptional.  I started  to Mysore on 20-jun-2010 early morning with my parents. I reached infosys around 11am and met aparna who was my classmate in my college. There were a bunch of CSE guys from our college too. I didn’t know anyone well in that group. After few minutes I was called by infosys securities and went inside the campus. My parents were asked to sit in a food court inside campus.
I took my luggage  and sat under a large umbrella in-front of the mind blowing GEC2 building which can compete with Mysore maharajah palace. Aparna and Keerthana came and sat near me. We had a formal chat and then we finished our official formalities and got our temporary ID cards. Then we were taken to our room in a Tata Sumo and our luggage’s were carried by a golf cart. I didn’t know those guys in the Tata Sumo were going to be my good friends. I  understood that they were all from TamilNadu and so i am. So we had a formal chat and we were all given nearby rooms.
When I was travelling to my room in the Tata sumo, I
saw lot of professionals, rocksters (!?) even gangsters were moving all around the campus wearing the strangest ever clothes I had seen w/wo girls. Girls were walking with Infosys umbrella. Surprisingly I dint hear any vehicle horn except cycle bells. Yes, From sweeper to PM, everyone was using cycles. Most of them were lady birds. I was thrilled of this all new experience and I didn’t understand why they were looking at me with a cunning smile( At the end of my training I too smiled on seeing the freshers. I will tell you later ) .As soon as I reached hostel building, I moved my luggage and opened the door. I was so impressed with the room. An ultra cool wall mount Samsung LCD TV, A king size bed and all the furniture’s were made of wood and the room was 100% clean and perfect. The bathroom was so neat. Suddenly I turned back as someone was calling me “baiyaa” . I met a new character “Ravi” who was the house keeping in charge for my floor. He came to my room and tried to help me with kannada his mother tongue and 50% hindi. As i didn’t understand both, I managed with a few well known English words. I also met one guy from andhra and one more from MP, as both were staying in the adjacent rooms.OMG! I left my parents in food court. I took few snaps of my room and rushed to the food court. They were waiting there with whole lot of expectations. I told them that everything was perfect and I was so happy and so they were. We ate chapatti with egg curry. My mom didn’t like it and as usual I finished last and that’s time. They need to go back to home. I sent them and I didn’t feel anything bad as I was staying in hostel for the past 6 years.

After that in food court I was searching for someone whom I know and I found the guys who were with me in the Tata sumo. I passed the first day with them( here after I will mention them as sairam guys ) . We finished our dinner in FC1 ( Food Court 1 ).That night “kudi” a friend of one of the sairam guy took us to the multiplex where infosys-mysore used to screen movies every weekend. To my surprise the movie was a new release “Ravana”. But the sad part, it was in hindi. I didn’t understand anything except few scenes. Abishek made me laugh even in the climax.
The movie was over by 10 PM and then we took cycles to reach our rooms which was at a distance of 2 KM from multiplex. I lied in my bed till 12 PM as I dint get any sleep. I watched TV and eventually I fell asleep with lot of dreams for the next day.

I woke up earlier though I slept very late. I got ready around 7 AM and done with my prayers. I was asked to report at 9.00 AM. Once all of my friends got ready, we moved to the nearest food court “Amoeba”, finished our breakfast. We reached the Multiplex around 08.45 AM. I saw around 600 – 700 guys and gals standing in two separate queues. Everyone was so eagerly discussing about infy, training procedures and all. I met few of my school mates after a long time. We finished the formalities and went inside multiplex after spending almost 1 hour in the long queue. The Multiplex is the ball shaped building which could accommodate 1000 people at a time. It is the place where the weekend movies are screened. Inside multiplex we were formally greeted by all the infy department heads and we had a session from all of them. It included infy policies to facilities. The entire week went like this and we came to know more about infy and its working culture and all. In the mean time the regular formalities like certificate, passport, NSR verification and new bank account opening procedures were all done.
So my first week was so cool and we had nothing but to enjoy the campus. During the first weekend I visited Mysore palace with Sam and Balamurugan. Also I purchased a sports shoe and few dresses. I found Mysore was not so good for shopping. The next week we were separated as small groups consists of 30 trainees each. We attended soft skill programs and it was very much enjoyable since the educators were so cool and friendly. We made good friends during the soft skill session and endless comedies happened. All the way we unknowingly developed our communication skills. I failed in soft skill exam during my first attempt. That was my first exam in Infy.

Infy Mysore campus has almost all facilities that one need to live. So I didn’t go anywhere even during few weekends. I spent my time in my room and in employee care center (ECC). I learned to play Table Tennis. I learned so many acronyms like IBU, ECC blah blah blah… :) Our technical training started from the week after we finished our first phase of soft skill training. Many people do worry lot about the technical training. Infy has CGPA scales to evaluate trainees. It is not a big deal for an average CS student to finish off the training with good marks. Only those who were extremely poor suffered. But they really learnt well and few of my friends who suffered during training were landed in some other good companies. So With the help of Hard Work and Dedication, anyone can easily clear the training. Once your generic training is over, trainees were shuffled and put in various streams as per the business need. Don’t think too much about the training. You will have some pleasant and unpleasant surprises. So be ready to face them. I assure if you are an average CS graduate then you can do well. Non CS trainees need to study more than CS trainees, But most of the times they end up with very good CGPA then CS trainees.
There are so many interesting places in infy Mysore to remember like food courts, hotels outside campus, GEC 1 and 2, Hostel building, temple near infy campus, tourist spots in Mysore etc.

Training Freshers at Infosys

Infosys – The Organization(older post)
In 1981, a small team led by NR Narayana Murthy and his wife, started ‘Data Basics Corp’ a small time on-site software developer company. The company was later renamed as Infosys.
During its initial years, Infosys struggled to get projects due to lack of reputation, inadequate infrastructure, and government regulations. But the determination of the promoters and their full involvement got them their first order which they completed successfully in time.
Exports increased over time and Infosys set up a Software development center in Bangalore, India. In 1987, it established its first international office in California, US. In 1988, Infosys bagged its first major order from the Reebok and in 1989 bagged another major order from Digital Equipments based in the US. The year 1991 was a significant year in the history of Indian business. In the Union Budget that import tariffs were reduced, taxes were rationalized, and exports were encouraged. Other reforms introduced were free-market pricing of Initial Public Offering (IPO) and relaxation in restrictions on foreign exchange, etc.
In 1993, Infosys successfully completed its IPO. By 1995, Infosys had become the fifth largest software exporter in India. In 1996, it set up its office in UK and then in Canada in 1997.In 1999, Infosys achieved annual revenues of US$100 mn. In the same year it earned the highest level of certification, CMM Level 5, conferred to only a few companies in the world.
It was the first Indian company to be listed on NASDAQ in 1999. In 2001 and 2002 it was rated as the ‘Best Employer in India’ and ‘India’s most respected company’ by leading Indian business magazines. In 2006, Infosys Technologies Limited was one of India’s biggest IT companies and provided IT services, solutions, and consultation globally. By the year 2006 it had over 49,000 employees worldwide.
Entering Infosys
By 2006, there were close to 50,000 Infoscions (employees of Infosys). Getting a job at Infosys was tough as it admitted only 1% of applicants. Out of the total number of applicants, Infosys short-listed only top 20% of students from premier colleges, universities, and institutes.
Infosys in its history had hired many people from different engineering fields who exhibited a high aptitude for ‘learn-ability’ and preferred them over those computer engineers who could not solve problems beyond their technical training.
The short listed candidates underwent a rigorous selection procedure, which involved a series of aptitude tests and interviews. The aptitude tests were significantly tougher and very few candidates cleared them.
The successful candidates were invited for a personal interview. Candidates were judged mainly on their analytical abilities, learn-ability, and communication skills. The selected few candidates were then given job offers.
Need for Training
The dynamic nature of the software and IT industry requires its workforce to upgrade frequently in technology and skills. Companies were focusing on continuous training and development of their employees, which also helped in the reduction of attrition rate.
At Infosys, every new recruit underwent approximately three months of training before they were made billable to clients.
The American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) rated Infosys as the world’s best in employee training and development and conferred ‘Excellence in Practice Award continuously for three consecutive years 2002, 2003 and 2004. The award was conferred for its ‘Global Business Foundation School.’ It was a program for all fresh engineering entrants to Infosys to equip them for the challenging software career ahead of them. The program ran around the year and was implemented over several global centers across the organization.
The Global Business Foundation School comprised of generic conceptual courses, platform specific courses, mini projects for application, and an end term project tailored from real life projects. In addition to technical courses, fresh entrants were also exposed to courses on communication skills, interpersonal skills, customer interaction etiquettes, management development, and quality systems.
In 2005 Infosys established ‘Infosys U’, one of the largest corporate training centers in the world.
Infosys U
The ‘Global Education Center’ was set up in 2005. It was one of the biggest corporate training centers in the world. The Global Education Center would run a 14.5 week residential program, which would impart generic and work specific training in technology areas, along with soft skills and leadership programs to freshers.
The center had 2,350 rooms spread across the campus, 58 training rooms, 183 faculty rooms, state-of-the-art library and a cyber cafe. The center had the capacity to train around 15,000 freshers in one year.
The Training Program
After the new recruits joined Infosys, they were taken to Infosys U for a 14.5 week training program. At Infosys U, the freshers were welcomed in Infosys by NR Narayana Murthy through an audio visual presentation. The initial days of the training program, freshers filled forms and learned the values that drove Infosys. During the entire training program, new recruits were trained to work or program different tech applications.
The library had an online database of Infosys case studies to help the recruits. The trainers generally imparted training in hard skills through lectures on the concepts and theory for a few hours and then allowed the recruits to work independently and build their own applications for the rest of the day.
While the training program focused mainly on technical skills, the freshers were also trained in soft skills. There were separate rooms and faculties for soft skill training. Training was imparted on global etiquette, comportment, importance of body language, public speaking, improving interpersonal communication and team-building. The various methods used included, asking the freshers to perform skits, going through several ‘what-if’ scenarios and to practice smiling in front of the mirror.
The campus provided best of food to at an affordable price. Among other options, the campus had the retail outlet of the pizza chain ‘Domino’s Pizza’ where both Western and Indian varieties of pizzas were available. The pizza could also be ordered while the employee was working, but the Infosys culture discouraged working during lunch. The Infoscions believed in taking break during lunch and socializing.
The center had an ‘Employee Care Center’ to facilitate all round development. The employee care center offered recreational facilities such as a gymnasium, a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, bowling alley and a meditation hall. It also had an international-class cricket ground and a multipurpose ground with a six-lane synthetic track, which housed basketball, volleyball, squash, and tennis courts. The campus also housed an auditorium, which had a seating capacity of 1,300 people and three multiplex theatres with a capacity of 150 seats each. The freshers had to work for eight hours every day and at the end of the training program, the freshers had to pass two comprehensive exams before proceeding further. About 1% to 2% failed in the exams.
Infosys U also served as the opportunity to interact with Infoscions working in countries other than India.
Conclusion
Infosys is amongst the few companies, which actually practiced what it preached.
